‘An Evening of New York Songs and Stories’: Suzanne Vega live on tape from Horch House

It’s fantastic that we’re starting to see a wider breadth of music available on reel-to-reel tape lately, both in terms of a broader range of genres and also an increasing number of contemporary artists alongside the ‘old greats’.

Horch House have been doing some sterling work on this, with recent releases including Alice Cooper and Yello.

Now there’s another exciting artist announcement: Suzanne Vega!

‘An Evening of New York Songs and Stories’ is a live album that Grammy Award-winning American singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega recorded in March 2019 at New York City’s Café Carlyle, and which was originally released on the Cooking Vinyl label (on vinyl and CD) in 2020.

The tapes (two) feature 24 tracks including Vega’s justifiably iconic hits (Tom’s Diner, Luka, Marlene On The Wall, etc) as well as some ‘hidden gems’ that fit perfectly with the New York theme.

Vega’s band comprises her long-time guitarist Gerry Leonard, bassist Jeff Allen and keyboardist Jamie Edwards. The album was produced by Gerry Leonard, mixed by Kevin Killen and mastered by Grammy Award winner Bob Ludwig.
