‘Exclusive’: Hemiolia to preview / announce new titles at the Munich High-End Show this week

There’s more exciting news afoot from the folks at Hemiolia Records, whose copy-master tape releases over the past year or two have been pretty darned spectacular and show no signs of slowing down!

If you’re heading over to the Munich High-End Show 2024 this week (9th to 12th May) you’ll find Hemiolia in Hall 4, Stand W04, with a raft of incredible wares and some exciting exclusive announcements.

Hot off the press

The label recently announced the launch of the Soulville by The Ben Webster Quintet copy master tape, with the first 20 numbered copies already available for pre-order on their website at www.hemioliarecords.com/en/master-tapes/60-numbered-edition-soulville-the-ben-webster-quintet-2reels-8050616581334.html (these will be shipped from 15th May).

Swing tenor saxophonist Webster was internationally recognized as one of jazz’s elder statesmen and this album, recorded in 1957, is considered as one of the highlights of his career. Notably, the Quintet features the Oscar Peterson Trio with Peterson on piano, Ray Brown on bass and Herb Ellis on guitar, along with Stan Levey on drums. It’s an intimate, tender and incredibly expressive album, so a perfect one for jazz fans to (re)discover and relish on tape!

Visitors to the High-End Show will be able to hear a preview and buy a copy. I’ve heard great things about it from the team at Hemiolia so I’m looking forward to receiving my copy, and I’ll post a review here when it arrives.

Coming soon

There will also be exclusive announcements of two new titles at the Show (I was sworn to silence until the Show started, so I didn’t spoil the surprise!). Now that the Show is underway, for those who can’t make it to Munich, here’s the scoop. Coming out in the next few months are:

Go! by Dexter Gordon – featuring Sonny Clark, Butch Warren and Billy Higgins, originally released on Blue Note in 1962.

A Night in Tunisia by Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers – also originally released on Blue Note, in 1961.

“We promised you a great catalogue some time ago, and we’re moving forward in this direction,” says the Hemiolia team. They’re not kidding. Keep up the awesome work, guys!
